Rafael Calvo has been designing environmentally conscious wood pieces for over 25 years. His passion for

design was developed at a young age, as he studied his father's boat designs for hours on end. Years later

Rafael's designed his first pieces, a collection of wooden toys. It has now been over 27 years since Rafael's

first collection, and his evolvement into elegant, modern and unique furniture design.

Environmental preservation and health have always been at the center of Rafael’s designs. Most of his

pieces are made from upcycled materials, and finished with non-toxic adhesives and finishes. His collection

of reclaimed wood was salvaged by Rafael from 150-year-old New York City townhomes, all of which was

destined for the landfills. 

Throughout his career Rafael has had the opportunity to work with distinguished architects, designers and

do custom pieces for private clients throughout New York, Miami and Buenos Aires. Now, through Karmatika,

his exquisite, one-of-a-kind pieces are accessible to you.
